The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the least expensive path to Kilimanjaro’s summit and the only one offering the comfort of sleeping huts at every campsite, equipped with solar lights and beds. The communal huts feature sponge mattresses and pillows, with 60 beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts and 120 at Horombo Hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the lower huts, while the final camp has basic latrines. Climbers from around the world share meals in dining huts, creating a lively and social atmosphere. Typically completed in five days, the route can be extended to six days for better acclimatization, allowing extra rest at Horombo or a short climb on Mawenzi.
